The Salinas Safe Routes to Schools Plan is a partnership between the Transportation Agency for Monterey County, City of Salinas, Monterey County Health Department, Ecology Action, and the Salinas City, Salinas Union, Alisal, and Santa Rita School Districts. The goal of the project is to improve safety for students biking and walking to 45 schools in Salinas.

Community input is the foundation of the planning process. The Plan will include infrastructure recommendations for each school such as new and/or improved crosswalks, as well as program recommendations such as bike and pedestrian safety education, crossing guards, and school carpooling. The draft list of recommendations will be shared with the school community in spring and fall of 2021, and the community will have the opportunity to give input on the project list. The final plan is expected to be completed in late 2022.
